Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! It will be filled with exciting activities, events, and initiatives that will enrich the educational opportunities for all students. Through a supportive, nurturing, and inclusive environment that focuses on Engagement, Innovation, and Pride, the East Hanover Township School District will ensure that each child is successful.
Thanks to the dedication and efforts of our whole community, the East Hanover Township School District has developed a new Strategic Plan. The plan, which spans the 2016-2019 school years, sets the District on a course which provides students with outstanding opportunities that will equip them with the necessary skills to meet and overcome the challenges of the 21st century. The 2016-2017 District Goals and Objectives starts us on our journey to accomplish this plan. We thank the community for their partnership and look forward to providing you with updates on our progress during this first year of implementation.
The District is also proud to announce the inaugural year of its full day Kindergarten program! Construction is nearing completion and we will be ready to greet students on the first day of school!
A couple of new positions have been established for this school year. Joining the team this year is Kelly Hart, supervisor of educational technology. Ms. Hart will assist in strengthening the district K-8 educational technology instructional practices and academic curricula. Additionally, through Title I funds, the District has contracted with Dr. Jim Gamble, a literacy specialist, to provide early interventions for at-risk students as well as provide professional development for teachers of at-risk students.
Strong connections and frequent communication with parents / guardians is a key component of student success. This year, to further enhance the relationship between school and home, each school will be providing newsletters to help parents / guardians stay apprised of all the wonderful activities happening in the classrooms and throughout the District. We are also committed to having a stronger presence on social media –be on the lookout for “tweets” from throughout the District and I hope you will follow me on @Dr.ScottRubin
Our newly designed district website (www.easthanoverschools.org) serves as a great resource for District and individual school information. Here you can gain access to school / district calendars, curricula, policy information, and much more. Parents/ Guardians can also access PowerSchool from the website. PowerSchool is the District’s student data management program and it provides access to students’ grades and attendance. Please access the portal often to gauge how your child is performing. In fact, you can modify the settings in Power School on the “email notification” section so that grade information can be sent automatically to you at a time interval of your choosing. Make sure to friend your child’s school Facebook page –it is a really nice way to stay informed. Additionally, the SchoolConnects communication system will assist the District in communicating important information to you. Please be sure to contact your child’s school should any of your contact information change.
There will be “Coffee with the Superintendent” meetings held quarterly in the morning and in the evening throughout the year. These informal meetings provide a forum to discuss topics that are important to our school community. I look forward to engaging you in meaningful dialogue.
The PTA (Parent Teacher Association) is a wonderful organization and a crucial part of our school community. They plan special events, provide cultural arts experiences, offer an organized venue for parents to have direct feedback into the academic and social programs we offer, provide endless support, and so much more. We, as a school community, would be at a great disadvantage without this organization and the resources it provides. Please be sure to join this terrific organization. They need your support and your involvement!
As always, please contact my office if you have any comments, questions and /or concerns. I look forward to an academically rigorous, productive, and rewarding school year!
Scott N. Rubin, Ed.D.
